Those goofy “transition” scenes you see in the campaign that are little cutscenes for opening doors or jumping over gaps were designed for co-op play despite the fact that overwhelmingly, players played the campaign solo, and it could have been a more streamlined experience. And even a mostly online game like Avengers has local saves for gear so that wouldn’t have happened there. Spirit of the North is a single-player 3rd-person adventure game inspired by the breathtaking and mysterious landscapes of Iceland. While it was often from joining other players, many players did still get their inventories wiped playing solo. The inventory wipe bug would have likely been reduced or eliminated if many players were playing online. Here are things that Outriders has to deal with being an extremely online game, even when players are playing solo:
It claims to not be a live service game, and while it may not be a “service” it is certainly “live” with a connection required at all times. Outriders, to me, is a game that fundamentally suffers from being “built from the ground up for online,” as in, it has no offline mode at all, and that has led to a number of the game’s biggest issues, this one included.
